The Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area, Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu has presented a budget proposal of N16.136 billion to the Council’s Legislative Arm for consideration and approval, reports thegazellenews.com
The budget proposal, tagged ‘Budget of Strategic Realignment’, represents a 45.42 percent increase over the 2025 budget.
Hon. Saliu emphasised that the bold but realistic budget is anchored on projected increases in Federation Account allocations and modest but achievable growth in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to N340 million.
Giving a breakdown of the allocation which according to him reflects a deliberate shift towards capital development, the Council helmsman hinted that the sum of N2.714 billion, representing 16.81%, will be spent on personnel cost, while overhead cost will gulp the sum of N8.092 billion, representing 50.14%, a total sum of N5.337 billion, representing 33.05 % will be expended on capital expenditure.
Expatiating on the capital expenditure, Hon Jimoh Olawale Saliu hinted that a total sum of N5.337 billion will be spent on General Public Service Sector, Public Order and Safety, Economic Affairs, Environment, Health, Education, Social Protection and Social Service Sectors.
The allocation for the sectors represents a significant increase in capital allocation compared to the year 2025 budget.
The Apapa-Iganmu LCDA Chairman emphasised that it signals the determination of his administration to deliver tangible infrastructure and services to the people.
Of particular importance according to the Chairman of the LCDA is the allocation to the Works and Infrastructure sector, which he said forms a critical component of the capital projects.
Hon. Jimoh stressed that his administration has proposed substantial investment in the construction and rehabilitation of roads and drainages across the seven wards, provision of solar -powered street light to illuminate dark spots and enhance security, construction and maintenance of solar- powered boreholes at least one per ward, and rehabilitation of existing drainages ans culverts, including the continuation of the ‘Operation Light -Up Apapa-Iganmu’ initiative.
The Chairman disclosed that the projects are carefully distributed across all wards to ensure equitable development and improved quality of life for residents.
Pointing out that the budget is not conceived in isolation, Hon. Jimoh emphasised that it is a direct continuation of the momentum his administration has built in its first 100 days.
Hon. Jimoh in conclusion affirmed that, “The 2026 budget is a budget of realignment, realigning our resources towards the most pressing needs of our people, realigning our priorities to complete ongoing projects while initiating new ones, and realigning our collective efforts towards building a safer, cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous Apapa Iganmu LCDA.”
The Council boss therefore implored the Legislative Arm to expedite action on the passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill to enable him hit the ground running in the new year for the benefit of the people.
He assured that his administration will continue to uphold transparency, accountability and inclusivity in the implementation of the budget.
In his remark at the occasion, the Leader of the Legislative Arm Hon. Adigun Arogundade assured that the Councillors will look at the budget and do the needful for speedy consideration.
He expressed the utmost believe that the year 2026 budget will be of great benefit to the people.
