The All Progressives Congress (APC) has maintained majority in the House of Representatives after winning 17 of the 31 seats in House of Representatives supplementary elections.
The repeat polls were conducted on Saturday, 15 April, 2023, in 14 states spread across the country.
With the 17 additional seats, the ruling party now has 179 members-elect in the House of Representatives. Trailing the APC is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 115 members-elect. The opposition party secured 10 out of the 31 seats contested.
The Labour Party (LP), which won a seat at the supplementary election, raise the number of its members-elect in the 10th House of Representatives to 35.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) also won a seat to increase its number to 19. APGA’s member-elect rose to five after clinching one more seat.
Other parties that have won seats into the 10th House of Representatives are: African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with two members-elect each and the Young Progressive Party (YPP), which won a seat.
The PDP had earlier won the Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency seat that was conducted on March 18 after it was initially suspended as a result of the missing logo of one of the political parties.
The winners in Saturday’s supplementary elections are: Alhassan Ado Doguwa, APC, Kano; Tolulope Akande Sadipe, APC, Oyo; Clement Jimbo, APC, Akwa Ibom; Shehu Nasiru, APC, Sokoto; Billy Osawaru, APC, Edo; Sani Nazifi, APC, Jigawa; Akarachi Amadi, APC, Imo; and Mark Bako Useni, APC, Taraba.
Others are: Paul Haruna, APC, Kogi; Sani Yakubu, APC Sokoto; Bello Ambarura,.APC- Sokoto; Abdullahi Kalambaina, APC, Sokoto; Bala Abubakar, APC, Sokoto; Sa’adu Nabunkari, APC, Sokoto; Jelani Danbuga, APC Sokoto; Ibrahim Al-Mustapha, APC Sokoto; and Garba Rabi’u Kamba, APC, Kebbi.
Those who won on the platform of the PDP are: Suleiman Gummi, Zamfara; Abbas Agboworin, Oyo; Abdussamad Dasuki, Sokoto; Bashir Usman Gorau, Sokoto; Dumnamene Dekor, Rivers; Rodney Ambaiowei, Bayelsa; Blessing Amadi, Rivers; Kabiru Adamu, Zamfara; Umar Yusuf Yabo, Sokoto; and Salisu Garba Koko, Kebbi.
The other winners are: Mohammed Bello Shehu, NNPP, Kano; Afam Victor Ogene, LP, Anambra; and Joseph Nwobashi, APGA, Ebonyi.
The result of the Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom state was cancelled by INEC due to widespread violence during the supplementary election, while one result from Imo state was still outstanding at the time of this report.
The rerun poll results from the Isu/Njaba/Nkwere/Nwangele Federal Constituency of Imo State was also still being awaited.Source: The Nation
