English Premier League champions and 2026 Champion League finalists, Arsenal FCon Saturday, 8 august, 2026 announced the signing of Brazil international midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United on a long-term contract, reports thegazellenews.com.
Arsenal Sporting Director, Andrea Berta said the midfielder would strengthen the club’s midfield and provide additional leadership and competition within the squad.

“With Bruno joining us, we are further strengthening the heart of our team. As we have all seen, Bruno can play as a defensive midfielder and as a box-to-box player,” Berta said.
“He combines quality with quantity, and has provided goals and assists for his team every year,” he added.
Berta added that Guimaraes’ arrival would give manager Mikel Arteta further options to develop Arsenal’s style of play while increasing competition within the squad.
Guimaraes will wear the number 39 shirt and join his new teammates immediately. Arsenal said the transfer remains subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
The signing of the mercurial midfielder puts an end to weeks of speculation over the player’s future, with Guimaraes now confirmed as an Arsenal player.
The 28-year-old joins Arsenal after four-and-a-half seasons at Newcastle, where he made nearly 200 appearances and played a key role in the club’s Carabao Cup triumph in 2025, a club statement on its website noted.
Guimaraes, who helped Newcastle qualify for the UEFA Champions League in two seasons, kick-started his professional football career with Sao Paulo-based Audax in 2015 before moving to Athletico Paranaense two years later.
He helped the Brazilian club win four major trophies before joining French side Lyon in January 2020.
After two seasons in Ligue 1, Guimaraes moved to Newcastle in January 2022 and established himself as a regular in the Premier League. His versatility allows him to operate as a defensive midfielder or in a box-to-box role.
At international level, Guimaraes has made 48 appearances for Brazil. He was part of the country’s squad at the recent FIFA World Cup and has also featured at the Copa America, just as he has also won a gold medal with Brazil at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
