The  Coalition of Aworis in the Diaspora (CANDID) based in the United States of America, Canada and Europe has paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Mojisola Lasbat Meranda in her office at the Assembly complex in Alausa, Ikeja, reports thegazellenews.com 

The delegation was led by the group’s former President, Mrs Irawo-Amusa and Chief Liaison Officer, Mrs 

Obasa

visited the Speaker in her office on Friday, 7 February, 2025.

Speaking during the visit, thegazellenews.com reports that Mrs Irawo-Amusa congratulated the new Speaker not for being elected into the exalted office but also for being the first female to achieve such feat since the creation of the state.

“We are here to congratulate you on attaining the feats of being elected Speaker and in the process becoming the first woman to attain such in the history of Lagos State.

“We, the Awori Indigenes in the Diaspora are proud of you and we strongly believe that as a woman and an Awori personality, you will excel and take the Assembly to greater heights,” Mrs Irawo-Amusa said.

She later presented the group’s letter of congratulation to the Speaker assuring her of its support.

Responding, Rt Honourable Meranda expressed appreciation to the group for identifying with her and the Assembly as a whole noting that she would not take their support for granted.

“This is your House of Assembly. It belongs to all of us and I want to assure you that we will work to ensure that interest and welfare of our people are well taken care of,” she assured.
