A leading chairmanship aspirant in the upcoming Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bauchi State Council election, Isa Gadau, has promised to prioritize journalists’ welfare, training, and infrastructural development if elected into office.
Gadau made this pledge during a campaign visit to the Correspondents’ Chapel in Bauchi on Tuesday, ahead of the council’s election scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026.
Addressing chapel members, Gadau stated that his administration would consolidate on the achievements recorded by the union over the last six years.
He highlighted key focus areas for his tenure, including Capacity Building which involves sustaining regular training programmes to help journalists adapt to the changing media environment, ensuring that facilities are secured through engagements with the Bauchi State Government and operating a open governance where constructive criticism will be welcome to improve the union.
He noted that facilities inherited in 2023 remain in good condition and revealed that the previously burnt NUJ bus has been fully rehabilitated.
Gadau, who previously served the council as Vice Chairman and later as Secretary, described the Correspondents’ Chapel as an integral part of the NUJ family.
“I have worked with most of you. You entrusted me with the mandate for Vice Chairman. Five years later, I came back to seek your support for the position of Secretary, and you voted for me again,” Gadau said, emphasizing his long-standing cordial relationship with the chapel members.
Earlier, Nasiru Kobi, representing the Director-General of the Gadau Campaign Organisation Ishola Michael, stated that the campaign would strictly focus on issues and purposeful leadership rather than divisive politics
Responding on behalf of the chapel, the Secretary of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Samuel Luka, described Gadau as a long-time friend of the chapel.
Luka urged all contestants to maintain maturity and shun hate speech, emphasizing that leadership ultimately comes from God.
“We will not engage in campaigns of calumny or make it a do-or-die affair. It is a family matter,” Luka stated, expressing optimism for a peaceful and rancour-free election on September 19.
