The Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, has commended the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for the reintroduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the state.
The environmental sanitation exercise is set to commence on Saturday, 25 April, 2026, and will take place on the last Saturday of every month from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., encouraging residents to clean their surroundings, clear drains, and dispose of waste responsibly.

Hon. Benson described the initiative as a timely and proactive step towards promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment in communities across Lagos State.
The council chairman noted that environmental cleanliness remains a shared responsibility between the government and residents, stressing that the revival of the environmental sanitation exercise would help strengthen public awareness on proper waste disposal and community hygiene.

According to him, residents of Imota LCDA and its surrounding communities must take full ownership of their environment by actively participating in the monthly sanitation exercise and maintaining cleanliness in their homes, markets, streets, and public spaces.
Hon. Benson further assured the state government of the council’s readiness to fully comply with the directive, adding that necessary arrangements would be made to ensure effective monitoring and participation across all wards within the council area.
He also called on community leaders, market associations, youth groups, Community Development Associations (CDAs), and other stakeholders to support the initiative by mobilizing residents and creating awareness on the importance of environmental sanitation.
The Imota LCDA Chairman emphasized that the health and well-being of residents remain a top priority of the council administration, noting that a clean environment is essential for preventing diseases and promoting a better quality of life.
Hon. Benson therefore urged residents to cooperate with relevant authorities during the sanitation exercise and continue to support policies aimed at making Lagos a cleaner and more livable city for all.
