Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agege have declared that the defection of two House of Assembly aspirants to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) will not affect the party’s fortunes in the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was made at a press briefing convened to react to the defection of the immediate past Chairman of Agege Local Government, Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, and Azeez Yusuf popularly called Ninalowo.
Addressing journalists on behalf of the Stakeholders on Monday, 21 September, 2026, former member of the state House of Assembly representing Agege State Constituency II, Dr Oluyinka Ogundimu, said both politicians have not only defected to the APM they have also secured the party’s tickets for Agege State Constituency I and II respectively, a development, he noted, was trending on social media and in national dailies.
According to the Agege APC chieftains, the defection did not come as a surprise, as rumours of the move had earlier circulated across the locality.
The group assured the APC leadership of its resolve to mobilise massively and deliver all party candidates.
“We will ensure and mobilise massive votes for the APC in the Agege Federal Constituency: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Kadir Obafemi Hamzat for Governor, Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule for Senate, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa for House of Representatives, Oluwagbenga Michael Abiola for Agege State Constituency I and Shakiru Enimakure for Agege State Constituency II,” Ogundimu said.
In the same vein, the Forum urged the Lagos State APC leadership to investigate the circumstances surrounding the defection and apply disciplinary measures where necessary.
The Agege leaders also called for urgent review and finalisation of all pending reconciliation and harmonisation concerning the unresolved party structures in Agege Local Government and Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area, to prevent the current structure from being used to work for the opposition.
The gathering further demanded urgent intervention over alleged disrespect to the state governor and party leadership regarding supervisors yet to be sworn in.
In addition, the stakeholders called for the identification and removal of all members, particularly executives of the unresolved structures in Agege and Orile-Agege and those serving at various levels in the state government who have defected or are found to be complicit with the defectors, from the party leadership and from the 2027 election planning and execution.
The Forum expressed implicit confidence in the leadership of the Lagos State APC to take appropriate action.
Present at the press briefing were: the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr Kayode Opeifa; current member of the state House of Assembly for Agege State Constituency II, Honourable Jubril Abdul Kareem; former member of the House of Representatives for Agege Federal Constituency, Honourable Taofeek Abiodun Adaranijo; former Chairman of Agege Local Governent, Honourable Rotimi Adeshina; former Executive Secretary of Agege Local Government and Barrister JO Adejombo.
