The Director General of the Oluwagbenga Michael Abiola Campaign Organisation, Hon. Sola Osolana, has said the reported defection of former Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) will boost the electoral fortunes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agege.
Osolana stated this on Monday, 21 September, 2026, while reacting to the defection and its implications for grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He argued that Egunjobi’s political influence was largely derived from the strength of the party structure under which he operated, rather than broad personal popularity.
He said, “Egunjobi’s defection to APM will increase APC votes in Agege. Residents don’t like him.”
Osolana contrasted Egunjobi’s standing with that of Hon. Gbenga Abiola, popularly known as Agbelebu, describing the latter as more accepted among residents.
He said, “Agbelebu is ten times more popular and loved by residents.”
According to him, Agbelebu’s grassroots appeal goes beyond party machinery and is built on accessibility, personal relationships and direct community engagement.
He noted that political influence should not be measured solely by access to party structures, but by trust, acceptance and connection with the electorate.
Osolana added that Agbelebu’s growing presence and sustained engagement across Agege distinguish him from politicians whose influence is tied mainly to party structures.
He observed that the reported defection has generated discussions among stakeholders over its possible impact on party support and mobilisation.
Meanwhile, Agbelebu, a former Sole Administrator and former Vice Chairman of Agege Local Government, has continued engagements across Agege Constituency 01 as political activities gather momentum.
Osolana reiterated that the campaign organisation remains focused on grassroots engagement, accessibility, effective representation and people-oriented leadership.
