The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that an electrical fault caused a minor fire at Idu Train Station in Abuja, assuring passengers that the incident did not disrupt Abuja-Kaduna train services.

NRC Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed in  statement behalf of the management that The incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 9 September, 2026, in the station’s low-voltage electrical room and was promptly contained by maintenance personnel.

A preliminary inspection showed that some electrical supply cables connected to the control panels were damaged, while the station’s alternative solar power system remained unaffected.

The NRC said power had also been temporarily restored to the lifts and escalators, with five of the six currently operational.

The Corporation stressed that the incident had no effect on Abuja-Kaduna train operations and that scheduled services would continue as normal.

It said its technical team was conducting further assessments to determine the cause of the fault and permanently restore the affected installations.

The NRC also notified the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for necessary technical support and intervention.
