Former Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adefunmilayo Tejuoso has commended the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for dedicating the month of September to raising awareness about domestic and sexual violence, reports thegazellenews.com

Reacting to the decision of the state government on the matter, Rt Hon Tejuoso described the initiative as vital in ongoing efforts to combat domestic and sexual violence as well as support survivors in the community

Rt Hon Tejuoso sponsored the Lagos State Domestic Violence Bill which culminated into signing of the Bill into Law by then Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, now President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Below is the full statement by Rt. Hon Tejuoso on the matter:

“As the sponsor of the Lagos State Domestic Violence bill that  culminated into the law in 2007 under the stewardship of his Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I want to take a moment to commend  Governor Sanwo-Olu on his decision to dedicate the month of September to raising awareness on domestic and sexual violence in the State .

This initiative is vital in our ongoing efforts to combat domestic violence and support survivors in our communities. By designating a month for the awareness and enlightenment, we are not only highlighting the severity of this issue but also encouraging open conversations and education, including the sourcing of resources for those affected.

Mr Governor’s leadership in this endeavour demonstrates a strong commitment to fostering a safer environment for all individuals regardless of sex. It sends a strong signal that our state, being the centre of excellence, stands firmly against domestic and sexual violence, and is dedicated to supporting survivors and their families.

Together we can achieve zero tolerance for domestic and sexual violence.

Congratulations to us all. Moyo fun e, moyo fun ra mi.

Signed:

Rt. Hon Adefunmilayo Tejuoso
