The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to embrace the spirit of giving and volunteerism towards the vulnerable and less privileged, as the world marks the International Day of Charity 2026.
Tinubu made the call in a statement issued on Friday, 5 September, 2026, via the official X handle of the Office of the First Lady, @statehouse_Fl.
She said the occasion served as a reminder of the power of kindness, compassion and generosity in building a more caring and inclusive society.
Describing charity as more than giving, the First Lady explained that it involved extending a helping hand, restoring hope, and supporting those in need.
“Charity is more than giving; it is about extending a helping hand, restoring hope, and supporting those in need. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a meaningful difference in the life of another,” she said.
She maintained that collective action towards charitable causes could help reduce poverty, strengthen communities, and ensure that no one is left behind.
“I encourage Nigerians to continue to embrace the spirit of giving and volunteerism, particularly towards the vulnerable and less privileged. Through our collective action, we can help reduce poverty, strengthen our communities, and ensure that no one is left behind,” she said.
She rounded off the message by wishing Nigerians a happy International Day of Charity 2026.
