Five people are feared dead after a speeding gas truck ploughed into two other vehicles at Kara, Ibafo, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, triggering a devastating triple collision on one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.
The accident happened on Monday, 24 August, 2026, as vehicles headed into Lagos. The Deputy Commander of the Mowe-Ibafo Division of the Road Traffic Authority, Ojo Job Olarinsoye, disclosed the incident in an operational update, confirming that emergency responders are on-site managing the scene and assisting with evacuation and recovery.
Three vehicles were involved. A white HOWO Truck, registration number BDG-332YK, carrying gas, was speeding when it crashed into a white Mitsubishi Mini Truck, registration number JJJ-920YA, transporting goats, and a white MACK Truck with an unknown registration number hauling a blue container filled with stones.
All five victims are male. The Ogun State Ambulance and Emergency Service has transported four of the presumed deceased to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, with recovery efforts for the fifth victim ongoing.
TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps, OGSAES and the Police remain on-site, working to restore traffic flow and complete evacuation and recovery operations. Further updates are expected as rescue efforts continue.
