Famous Nigerian highlife musician, Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as Flavour and his counterpart in the music industry, Kingsley Chinweike Okonkwo, better known as Kcee, are presently in war of words with each other over who owns the Igbo cultural music genre.
Flavour accused his colleague, Kcee of copying his style, while the later said they are not on same level in the music industry.
Flavour, the ‘Nabania’ exponent took to his X handle on Monday, 28 October, 2024 throw shade at someone for copying his music style.
He wrote, “Copy copy akaria.”
While Flavour didn’t mention anyone, it didn’t take long for fans to figure out that he was referring to Kcee who recently transitioned from Afropop to highlife and Igbo cultural music.
Kcee responded by claiming that Flavour was not on his level and urged him to choose his battles carefully.
The singer warned Flavour to stop trying to gatekeep Igbo cultural music, adding that he was in the music industry before him.
On his X handle, Kcee wrote, “Bro, We are not on the same level. Pick your battles carefully .Stop trying to gatekeep Igbo culture. You’re not a Custodian.
“I’ve been in this game before you. It belongs to all.
“You don’t own this genre of music.
“My music celebrates our heritage, and I won’t apologize.
“In an ocean of things that matter. You’re like a needle.
“Get that right
“People recognize authenticity. I’ll continue celebrating our culture unapologetically. Spend your energy on success, not diminishing mine.”
