Four men were killed and several others severely injured on Thursday, 27 August, 2026, following a violent communal clash at Power Line Bus Stop in the Ikola area of Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State.
The violence reportedly broke out after an argument between a northern resident and a suspected former cult leader escalated, resulting in the latter being stabbed. The attack triggered widespread chaos, prompting an outbreak of fire that destroyed several makeshift structures in the vicinity.
Emergency responders and security forces, including officers from the Meiran Police Division, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), were deployed to reinforce the area and quell the disturbance.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the casualties stating that emergency crews responded to a distress call regarding the fire around 1:52 p.m.
”Four adult males were confirmed dead at the scene, while several injured victims received immediate medical assistance,” Oke-Osanyintolu said. He added that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully brought the blaze under control.
While normalcy and a heavy security presence have been restored to Ikola and surrounding communities, LASEMA advised residents to stay calm, avoid retaliatory actions, and refrain from sharing unverified details.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the causes of the riot, pledging to prosecute all responsible parties.
