Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps on Wednesday, 16 September, 2026 confirmed that at least persons lost their lives in the early hours of today following a fatal crash that occurred at about 4 a.m. around Straight Gate School, Ipara Remo, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, reports thegazellenews.com.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Chief Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, who made this disclosure through a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, 15 September, 2026, said crash involved a blue Mitsubishi Canter with registration number FGE 753 XA and an ash-coloured HOWO truck with registration number T-695 KT.
According the Odunsi, the crash was reportedly caused by speeding, fatigue and wrongful overtaking, just as he also added that Mitsubishi driver, who was reportedly travelling at high speed, rammed into the moving truck while attempting to overtake.
While adding that fatigue was also identified as a contributing factor, as the driver was reportedly fatigued during the journey, Odunsi said, “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, confirmed a fatal road traffic crash that occurred at about 0400hrs on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, along the Ibadan–Lagos route at Straight Gate.
“A total of eight (8) persons were involved in the crash. Four (4) persons, all male adults, were killed, while one (1) male adult sustained injuries and three (3) persons were unhurt.
“Two vehicles were involved in the crash: Mitsubishi Cabstar, blue in colour, registration number FGE 753 XA. HOWO Truck, ash in colour, registration number T-695 KT.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the crash was caused by speed violation (SPV) and wrong overtaking (WOV). The Mitsubishi driver, reportedly travelling at high speed, rammed into the moving truck while attempting to overtake. Fatigue was also identified as a contributing factor, as the driver was reportedly fatigued during the journey.”.
According to the command image –maker, the FRSC rescue team received the report at 4:33 a.m. and arrived at the scene at 4:39 a.m., recording a six-minute response time.
Odunsi , who said the injured victim was taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the FOS Mortuary, Ipara, added that the crashed vehicles had been handed over to the Police Motor Traffic Division, Isara Division, for further investigation and necessary action.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists to avoid speeding, fatigue and unsafe overtaking, especially during early-morning journeys.
Ogunjobi also advised drivers to take adequate rest before embarking on long-distance trips and to overtake only when it was safe and permissible to do so.
