Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdukadir Mohammed has granted executive pardon to seventy-three inmates across custodial centres in the State, describing the decision as a constitutional duty guided by compassion and justice.

Addressing the released individuals at the Government House in Bauchi Wednesday, Governor Bala Mohammed stated that the clemency, exercised under Section 212 of the 1999 Constitution, followed recommendations from the state Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy after a thorough review process.
He explained that the beneficiaries were selected based on their age, health conditions, length of sentence served, minor offences, and demonstrated remorse, emphasizing that those convicted of capital offences were excluded.

The Governor highlighted that the gesture coincided with the Ramadan season, adding that mercy complements justice and provides deserving individuals with an opportunity for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
