Nigerian rapper Skales has accused unnamed former associates of betraying him and unfairly branding him a jealous person, insisting that despite years of alleged sabotage, he remains relevant nearly two decades into his career.
The singer, born Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, made the claim in a post shared via his verified X handle, @youngskales, at 23:48 on Friday,11 September, 2026
The post had garnered over 136,000 views, 2,700 likes, 297 reposts and 288 comments as of press time. Skales alleged that people he once considered teammates spread lies about him after gaining the spotlight, pushing agendas designed to downplay his achievements.
He credited his continued relevance to divine mercy and his mother’s guidance in prayer.
“In this industry I was betrayed, lied upon, called a jealous person,” Skales wrote, adding that people he thought were on the same team told many lies about him because they got the spotlight and sold different agendas to downplay his greatness.
He said that despite the alleged sabotage, he remains “more relevant than ever,” crediting no better help than God’s mercy and thanking his mother for teaching him to pray.
Although the post did not name anyone directly, it reignited long-standing speculation about a rift between Skales and his former Empire Mates Entertainment labelmate, Wizkid, drawing swift reactions from fans and commentators.
Reacting under the post shortly after it went up, a user identified as DEALERSHIP questioned Skales’ sincerity, asking whether he was tired of what the user called a “victim mentality.”
Other reactions followed within hours. A user, Kola Odeyinka, recalled an earlier remark he attributed to Wizkid, that he would end Skales’ career, noting instead that Skales had outlasted the prediction. The user invoked the Yoruba phrase “God pass dem” to underscore the point.
Another user, Machala FC, urged Skales to apologise to Wizkid, accusing him of harbouring resentment toward someone he described as divinely favoured. The user said Wizkid’s success came without effort and predicted he would “shine forever.”
Forty-seven minutes after the original post, a user under the handle Miguellie alleged that jealousy had ruined Skales’ friendship with Wizkid, claiming old videos from Wizkid’s tour and subsequent interviews showed visible bitterness on Skales’ part over his former labelmate’s success.
As of press time, neither Wizkid nor his camp had responded to Skales’ remarks.
