The Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, has commended the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation for extending its free medical outreach initiative to grassroots communities, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.
He gave the commendation during the foundation’s Free Medical Outreach programme held earlier today, Saturday, 28 February, 2026, at the Imota mini-stadium, which attracted hundreds of beneficiaries from Imota and neighboring communities.
The free medical outreach, organized in collaboration with Starkey Hearing Foundation, Lagos State Healthcare Board, Lagos State Health District II, Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria, and Medical Team of the Imota LCDA Primary Healthcare Centre, provided a wide range of healthcare services at no cost to residents.
Services offered included: ear screening and ear syringing with the provision of hearing aids, eye examinations and recommended glasses, cardiovascular screening, distribution of prescribed medications, and general medical consultations. The programme was designed to bridge the healthcare access gap for underserved populations at the community level.
Hon. Benson, while addressing participants, representatives of the foundation, and health practitioners from the Lagos State Government, praised the vision and humanitarian commitment behind the intiative. He noted that the initiative reflects a deep understanding of the healthcare challenges facing rural and semi-urban communities across Nigeria.
According to the Council Chairman, access to affordable and quality healthcare remains a major concern for many residents, particularly the elderly, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), young peilople, and low-income earners. He stressed that partnerships between government institutions and credible non-governmental organizations are essential in complementing public health efforts and improving overall community wellbeing.
The outreach saw medical professionals attending to large numbers of patients, many of whom expressed gratitude for the opportunity to receive free consultations, diagnostic tests, and in some cases, corrective surgeries. Beneficiaries described the programme as life-changing, especially for those who had long postponed treatment due to financial constraints.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing health as a critical component of grassroots development. Hon. Benson highlighted ongoing efforts by the council to support health initiatives and called on other corporate bodies and philanthropic organizations to emulate the foundation’s gesture by investing in community-focused interventions.
Representatives of the foundation reiterated their dedication to promoting public health and pledged to sustain outreach programmes in vulnerable communities. They emphasized that preventive healthcare, early diagnosis, and prompt treatment remain central to reducing avoidable health complications among Nigerians.
The event concluded with the presentation of assistive devices and prescribed medications to beneficiaries. The successful outreach further strengthened the collaborative relationship between Imota LCDA, Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, and other partner organizations, reinforcing a shared commitment to delivering meaningful impact at the grassroots level.
