The Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to environmental cleanliness and public health by leading a comprehensive environmental sanitation exercise at the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Ebute-Ajebo Road, Imota, and the Igbokuta Bridge of the council area.
The exercise, held on Saturday, 25 July, 2026, during the July edition of the monthly environmental sanitation programme, was in compliance with the directive of the Lagos State Government. It also formed part of the council’s ongoing environmental sustainability initiative under the “Hi-SEE” Transformation Agenda.
The exercise witnessed the active participation of council officials, environmental health officers, community leaders, the leadership of NYCN Imota LCDA Branch, and residents who joined hands to clear refuse, evacuate blocked drainage channels, and improve the overall cleanliness of the affected areas.
Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Benson stressed that a clean environment remains fundamental to the health, safety, and socio-economic development of every community. He noted that his administration would continue to prioritise environmental sanitation as a proactive measure to prevent disease outbreaks, safeguard public health, and ensure a healthier living environment for all residents of Imota LCDA.
The council Chairman explained that the decision to extend the sanitation exercise to the Primary Health Centre at Ebute-Ajebo Road was aimed at maintaining a hygienic healthcare environment for patients, healthcare workers, and visitors. According to him, healthcare facilities deserve the highest standards of cleanliness to support effective healthcare service delivery and improve the well-being of residents.
At the Igbokuta Bridge corridor, Hon. Benson personally supervised the clearing of overgrown vegetation, desilting of drainage channels, and removal of indiscriminately dumped refuse that had constituted environmental hazards. He urged residents and business owners within the area to adopt proper waste disposal practices, maintain clean surroundings, and protect public infrastructure from misuse.
Also speaking during the exercise, the Leader of the Legislative House, Hon. Adeshina Ademola Oluwole, commended the Chairman for leading the sanitation campaign by example. He described environmental sanitation as a collective responsibility and urged residents to complement the council’s efforts by keeping their homes, business premises, and public spaces clean at all times. He emphasised that sustained environmental hygiene remains critical to the overall development and healthy living of the community.
Officials of the Environmental Health Services and Waste Management Department of Imota LCDA, led by the Head of Department, Mr. Ogunmodede Emmanuel, were also on ground to sensitise residents on the importance of regular sanitation, proper waste management, and compliance with environmental regulations. The Deputy Director of the department, Mr. Dauda Waheed Adisa, warned against indiscriminate refuse disposal and encouraged members of the public to report environmental violations to the appropriate authorities.
Residents, political office holders, and members of the management staff who participated in the exercise commended the chairman for personally leading the sanitation campaign, describing the initiative as a demonstration of responsive and people-centred leadership.
The environmental sanitation exercise at PHC Ebute-Ajebo Road and Igbokuta Bridge further reflects the determination of the Benson-led administration to build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Imota LCDA. Residents expressed optimism that the initiative would not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the communities but also strengthen public health, environmental resilience, and collective responsibility towards maintaining a cleaner environment across the council area.
