Residents of Imota Local Council Development Area are witnessing improved access to voter registration services as the council intensifies efforts to bring the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise closer to the grassroots.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Chairman of Imota LCDA, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, is designed to deepen democratic participation by ensuring that eligible residents across all wards can conveniently register and update their voter information.

The exercise, which held on Tuesday, 7 April, 2026, at Polling Unit 020, located in front of 14 Owode Street, Imota, featured a well-coordinated deployment of registration teams across designated polling units within the community.

According to the schedule released by the council, the registration will continue on Wednesday, 8 April, 2026, in front of 19 Oloruntedo Way, Imota; on Thursday, 9 April, 2026, in front of 44 Onabu Street, Imota; and on Friday, 10 April, 2026, in front of Alase Oluweri Maja Street, Imota, respectively.

This decentralized approach has significantly reduced congestion at central registration centres, making the process more accessible and encouraging wider participation, particularly among first-time voters and residents who previously faced logistical challenges.

Speaking on the development, Hon. Benson emphasized that voter registration remains a fundamental civic responsibility. He noted that the exercise provides an opportunity for citizens who have attained the voting age of 18 years and above, as well as those seeking to transfer or update their voter details, to do so seamlessly.
Residents who visited the registration center reported a steady turnout, with youths and women forming a significant portion of the applicants. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present to ensure orderliness and provide necessary guidance on procedures and documentation.

In addition to the physical registration process, the council has intensified awareness campaigns through social media platforms and grassroots mobilization efforts, sensitizing residents on the importance of obtaining a valid voter’s card as a tool for shaping leadership and influencing governance.
As the exercise continues, the council chairman urged all eligible residents who are yet to register to take advantage of the opportunity before the stipulated deadline, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic values and inclusive participation in governance.
