Residents of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area have Christmas and New Year celebrations to be remembered for a long time as Olugbani Mega Food-pack hit more than 13,000 households in the council area, reports thegazellenews.com

On Tuesday, 30 December, 2025, the Chairman of the council, Jimoh Olawale Saliu, launched the initiative at the council secretariat in Ijora.
According to Saliu, the Olugbani Mega Food-pack is meant to take care of more than 13,000 households in the council area.
“We target each room in each house and we believe a family lives in at least a room,” the council boss said.

Tagged ‘Olugbani Mega Food-pack’, each pack contains 5kg each of rice, garri and beans; semovita; spaghetti, a pack of Maggi cubes and a litre of Mamadol vegetable oil. Apart from this, each mega-pack is accompanied with N5,000 cash for each household.
The distribution of the food-pack took place simultaneously in all the seven wards of the council.
“Each ward has two points of collection, which means we have 14 points of collection across the seven wards of the council area,” the Apapa-Iganmu LCDA Chairman said.
Saliu told thegazellenews.com that the packs were evenly distributed across all stakeholders in the council area.

“We ensure that we take care of all the stakeholders in the LCDA,” Saliu said.
Stakeholders such as the Council of Imams, the youth council, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Community Development Committee (CDC), all the Community Development Associations (CDAs), the Hausa community, the Tapa community, the Igbo community, the South South community, the market men and women, the various transport unions and others.
The Apapa-Iganmu LCDA boss stated that his administration will make the programme a periodic affair, particularly targeting every festive period.

“We are starting with the Christmas and New Year festivals. Another one is coming during Ramadan, we will do another during Easter, yet another one will come during Eid-l-Kabir festival and this will be one of our flagship programmes in this administration,” Saliu said.
For residents of the council area, it is indeed a positive departure from the old order.
“This is really unprecedented in the history of this council. No Chairman has done this before. Jimoh Olawale Saliu is truly a grassroots man. He knows the real problem of the people of this council,” David Nwachukwu, a resident of Ijora told thegazellenews.com

Another resident, Alhassan Alkali, lauded Saliu for the initiative. “Indeed, the Chairman has provided the needed succour for us this festive period. Food is essential and what have in each pack can feed a household at for the whole period of the festival,” he said.
Saliu assured residents that his administration will continue to put in place measures and programmes that will enhance their welfare.
