The local branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities of the Abdulllahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero,(ASUU, AFUSTA) has decried the condition of hostels in the University and non-payments of academic earned allowances by leadership of the University and Kebbi state government.

The branch Chairman of the union, Dr Isah Musa Fakai, in a statement on Tuesday, 18 November, 2025, stated that the Union has made frantic efforts to save the University from imminent collapse through series of engagements with the leadership of the University, the state Ministry for Higher Education including ASUU zonal branch Sokoto to iron out grey areas and solve the lingering crisis.

Fakai lamented that such engagements didn’t yield any positive results as their demands remain unattended to by Kebbi state government.

According to him, the state government is yet to pay academic earned allowances from 2021 to date, refuse to pay arrears of minimum wage consequential adjustment, non- payment of yearly increments and arrears for same.

More worrisome, he said, is the condition of student hostels in the University which is grossly inadequate leading to avoidable overcrowding in the institution.

He appealed to Kebbi state government and well meaning people of Kebbi state to wade in to salvage the situations and to save the once leading university in northwest by meeting the demands of the union he said.

Isah maintained that the Union may take further action if nothing is done which may include industrial action in the near future.

While commending the state for past intervention, the union demands fast action to avert any showdown with Kebbi government.
