Buckingham Palace has announced on Monday, 5 February, 2024, that King Charles III has been diagnosed with a form of cancer and has begun treatment

“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the palace said in a statement.

The statement, said that he had begun treatment, just as it added that the king “remains wholly positive” and “looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible”, it said.

The statement said the ailment is not prostate cancer, but was discovered during his recent treatment for an enlarged prostate.

The type of cancer has not been revealed, but the palace said the King began “regular treatments” on Monday.

No further details are being shared on the stage of cancer or a prognosis.
