The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s campaign organisation to demonstrate how it intends to defeat President Bola Tinubu in 12 states in the 2027 presidential election, questioning its national political structures and capacity to deliver the projected results.
In a statement issued on Sunday, 18 October, 2023, the Lagos APC spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, said electoral victory depended on nationwide organisation, credible alliances and voter support, rather than campaign declarations.
Oladejo argued that Makinde’s campaign team had yet to demonstrate the political reach required to translate its projection into electoral success, asking what structures and coalitions it had established beyond the governor’s immediate political base.
The APC spokesman also pointed to reported disagreements within Makinde’s political camp in Oyo State, saying the governor should address challenges within his political base while building support for a national contest.
He maintained that presidential elections required candidates to present a compelling national agenda and demonstrate the capacity to mobilise voters across the country.
Oladejo cited Tinubu’s political experience, national network and record of coalition-building as advantages for the incumbent ahead of the 2027 election, while urging opposition parties to focus on presenting clear policy alternatives to Nigerians.
The Lagos APC expressed confidence in Tinubu’s re-election prospects, saying the President’s record and the APC’s Renewed Hope agenda would be presented to voters for assessment.
