Team Lagos has sent a strong warning to its rivals ahead of the 23rd National Sports Festival after dominating the Southwest zonal elimination with five titles and seven podium finishes across five team sports.
Lagos emerged tops in men’s basketball, men’s and women’s volleyball, and women’s football, while also securing runner-up finishes in other categories.
The performance placed Lagos ahead of Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti at the zonal competition and gives Team Lagos strong momentum ahead of the National Sports Festival.
The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, @lf_champ said the result reflected the state’s growing investment in athlete development and competitive sports.
“This performance shows the quality of talent in Lagos and the impact of the work we are putting into athlete development. Our athletes have shown that Team Lagos is ready to compete at the highest level, and we will continue to give them the support they need to succeed.”
Fatodu commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his sustained support and investment in sports infrastructure and athlete development.
“We appreciate Governor Sanwo-Olu for his strong commitment to sports. His investment in facilities, programmes and athlete development is creating the platform for our athletes to compete, win and inspire the next generation.”
The Southwest qualifiers featured: Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti in five team sports.
Team Lagos will now intensify preparations for the 23rd National Sports Festival holding in Enugu later this year, with the state targeting a strong medal haul at the national competition.
