A team from the Lagos State Sports Commission led by the Director General, Lekan Fatodu, has met with a woman who complained in a video how officials of a local government prevented her daughter from participating in a sporting competition to represent the state, reports thegazellenews.com

Thegazellenews.com recalled that the woman, in the video which went viral on social media, complained how the local government officials locked up her shop which prevented her daughter from taking her racket to play in the trial.

The woman stated that even when her daughter went to the council to appeal to the officials with medals she had won for the state, her appeals went on deaf ears.

The woman also narrated how she went to a state-owned hospital to pay for tests only to be turned back because she did not pay in cash.

Following the woman’s viral video, thegazellenews.com reports that Fatodu led a delegation from the LSSC to meet with the woman and her daughter on Wednesday, 2 September, 2026.

The visit, according to a statement from the Commission was meant to acquaint the team with the details of the incident with a preview to prevent such in future.

While the woman acknowledged the Lagos State Sports Commission as a consistent enabler of the dreams of her daughter and other young athletes, she advised that more efforts should be made by the Commission to enlighten other government institutions in the state to avoid becoming a hindrance to the ambitions of young people, especially girls, or becoming dream crushers.

Responding, Fatodu assured the woman of immediate action by reaching out to the government entity involved in her daughter’s situation to avert future occurrences. He also outlined mid-term and long-term responses that will include the activation of a robust policy framework aimed at mitigating similar circumstances, expanding communication channels between the Commission and parents of young athletes, including the athletes themselves, to ensure urgent support whenever the need arises, and increasing awareness among MDAs to protect future talents.

“The dream of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is to see young talents being discovered in Lagos and nurtured to full potential. So, any action by anyone or an entity that seeks to negate that lofty ambition for youth empowerment through sports will be a massive disservice to efforts on talent development ” Fatodu said.
