The Permanent Secretary of Health District IV, Dr Abimbola Bowale, has stated that, given Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to prioritising healthcare, it is only a matter of time before every ward in the state has its own primary healthcare centre.

Bowale added that the Lagos State Government is dedicated to ensuring that Lagosians have access to quality healthcare at the grassroots level.

The Perm Sec made this while speaking as a guest on the Radio Lagos programme “Citizens’ Gate,” an initiative of the Office of Political, Legislative, and Civic Engagement, on Thursday, 20 February, 2025.

Bowale, who also serves as the Supervising Permanent Secretary of the Primary Healthcare Board, described the division of the state into six health districts as a game-changer that has transformed the health sector, bringing efficiency and effectiveness to the healthcare system.

While commending the six Permanent Secretaries of the districts for their dedication, he noted that “both the state and local governments are responsible for managing the health centres,” adding that the government will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that everyone, including those in riverine and remote areas, has access to quality healthcare.

The Permanent Secretary further reiterated that the state’s commitment to the health sector led to the employment of over 200 healthcare workers last month, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, community health workers, and other medical professionals.
