The Lagos State Government has made registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) compulsory for enrolling learners in all public and private schools across the state, beginning with the 2026/2027 academic session.
The government disclosed this on its official Twitter handle, @followlasg, stating that schools must obtain and record each learner’s valid LASRRA registration number as part of the admission process from Monday, 14 September, 2026.
The directive, approved by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, is being implemented through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) as part of efforts to establish a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners in the state.
Alli-Balogun explained that the initiative formed part of the government’s broader strategy to develop a reliable database that would improve planning, monitoring and service delivery across the education sector.
He added that capturing learners on the LASRRA database would also strengthen record-keeping, learner identification and verification, facilitate tracking, and provide government agencies with credible data for evidence-based decision-making.
Under the new arrangement, schools have been directed to include each learner’s LASRRA registration number in admission records and to sensitise parents and guardians on the requirement.
Schools are also expected to advise parents whose children are yet to register with LASRRA to complete the process ahead of the new academic session, while ensuring that learners’ personal information is handled confidentially and securely, in line with applicable data-protection standards.
Also speaking, the Director-General of OEQA, Dr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, said his office, in collaboration with LASRRA and other relevant agencies, would develop modalities for generating and assigning unique PINs to learners, while providing sensitisation, registration and verification support to schools, parents and guardians.
Ogunmuyiwa stated further that compliance with the directive would form part of OEQA’s monitoring and quality-assurance activities across public and private schools in the state, and urged parents, guardians and school proprietors to ensure their children and wards are registered with LASRRA before the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session, stressing that the requirement is mandatory.
