The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has congratulated one of the institution’s alumni, Mr. Tunji Disu, on his appointment as the Acting Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, reports thegazellenews.com

Disu’s appointment was announced by the Presidency on Tuesday, 24 February, 2026.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Governing Council, management, staff, students and alumni of the university, Olatunji-Bello described the elevation as well deserved and reflective of the university’s enduring commitment to producing leaders of national relevance.
The congratulatory message concluded with a reaffirmation of institutional pride, underscoring LASU’s identity as a citadel of excellence and leadership.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that Disu, a distinguished graduate of LASU, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education, as well as two Master’s degrees in Public Administration and in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from the institution.
She said his academic background, combined with years of professional experience, positioned him for the nation’s top policing role.
Describing the appointment as meritorious, Olatunji-Bello said it was “a powerful testament to Mr. Disu’s integrity, professional competence, and decades of disciplined and patriotic service to our nation.”
She further remarked that the new police chief embodies the core values of the university.
“Mr. Disu represents the very best of LASU resilient, intellectually grounded, and committed to transformational leadership. His elevation to the highest office in the Nigeria Police Force reinforces our University’s standing as a breeding ground for leaders who shape institutions and drive national progress,” she said.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Disu’s appointment comes at a critical moment for national security, and she expressed confidence in his capacity to strengthen ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
She stated that the Acting Inspector-General would bring to bear his “intellectual depth, vast operational experience, and strategic insight” to deepen public trust and enhance service delivery across the force.
While celebrating what she described as a milestone achievement for the university community, Olatunji-Bello wished him wisdom, courage and success as he assumes leadership of the police at a pivotal time for the country.
