Nollywood actress Mo Bimpe has dismissed social media criticism over her interaction with colleague Jide Awobona at the premiere of ‘A Mama Deola Wedding Story’ in Lagos.
The controversy followed a Wednesday, 2 September, 2026 video showing Mo Bimpe seated between Awobona and her husband, actor Lateef Adedimeji, with the actress leaning on Awobona’s shoulder while looking at something on her phone.
Some viewers subsequently scrutinised the interaction and suggested that Adedimeji appeared uncomfortable, triggering an online debate over boundaries, trust and conduct in marriage.
Mo Bimpe, however, addressed the criticism on her Instagram Story on Sunday, 6 September, 2026, describing the interaction as a normal conversation between friends that had been unnecessarily portrayed as suspicious.
She stressed that marriages differ, arguing that some are founded on trust, friendship, respect and confidence rather than fear, insecurity and constant monitoring.
“Not every marriage is built on fear, insecurity, and constant monitoring. Some marriages are built on trust, friendship, respect, and confidence,” she said.
The actress added that the reaction to the video said more about the kind of relationships her critics were accustomed to than about her marriage.
“The fact that so many of you found that interaction strange says more about the relationships you’re used to than it does about mine,” she said.
Mo Bimpe further rejected suggestions that her marriage was toxic, noting that healthy marriages still exist, even if some people may not relate to them.
“Not every marriage is toxic. There are still healthy marriages, but I understand if you can’t relate,” she added.
Responding directly to concerns about her husband’s reaction, she described Adedimeji as secure in their relationship and said a brief conversation with a family friend posed no threat to their marriage.
“My husband is a secure man. A brief conversation with a family friend does not threaten our marriage or require anyone’s concern,” she said.
