MTN Nigeria has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Abia State, a strategic alliance aimed at accelerating digital transformation, expanding broadband penetration, and unlocking socio-economic growth across the state.

The agreement formalised in Umuahia, reflects a shared ambition between MTN Nigeria and the Abia State Government, led by His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti, to build a digitally inclusive and innovation-driven future. MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Karl Toriola, led the company’s delegation to the event, where both parties reaffirmed their commitment to sustainable development powered by technology.

This partnership reiterates MTN’s core belief that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life, underpinning the company’s commitment to deepening broadband access and delivering next-generation digital solutions enabling progress.

Through this collaboration, MTN Nigeria will support Abia State with:

·      Statewide 3G, 4G and 5G network expansion for reliable high-speed connectivity

·      Affordable device financing for civil servants to increase access to digital tools

·      Cloud computing services to boost government efficiency and digitisation

·      Digital storefronts for merchants in Aba, Umuahia, Ohafia and other commercial centres

·      A dedicated Aba-brand e-commerce platform to help local businesses reach global markets at no cost

Governor Otti described the initiative as a bold move to position Abia State as a digitally enabled economy and innovation hub. He reiterated the state’s readiness to provide the support required to ensure long-term success, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, governance and economic competitiveness.

Speaking at the event, CEO, MTN Nigeria, Dr Karl Toriola, stated: “At MTN, we are guided by the belief that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life. With Abia State, this is a bold step in delivering that vision, combining infrastructure, innovation and collaboration to build a more inclusive, efficient and empowered society.”

Also present at the signing were key MTN Nigeria executives, including Lynda Saint-Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer; Shoyinka Shodunke, Chief Information Officer and Omotayo Ojutalayo, General Manager, Enterprise Business Development.

MTN Nigeria remains committed to building strategic partnerships that power progress, connect communities and unlock prosperity. This agreement marks another milestone in shaping a future where technology works for all.
