The football reform plans directed by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu are yet to make significant progress, as the leadership of the National Sports Commission, NSC and the NFF Congress remain at odds over the approach to the reforms.
In an online meeting held on Wednesday evening, Congress members rejected the NSC’s proposal to reduce the number of Congress members.
They stated that while they are in full support of the President’s decision to reform Nigerian football, it is important for the NSC leadership to work with Congress to achieve the goal instead of sidelining them.
The members also expressed displeasure over the plan to cut down Congress membership, arguing that the focus should be on accommodating more stakeholders instead.
With both parties scheduled to meet today to find common ground, the big question remains: how will they agree on the way forward?
Meanwhile, some stakeholders have questioned the rationale behind the inclusion of former NFF President Amaju Melvin Pinnick in the delegation to meet with FIFA in Zurich.
They argued that Pinnick is part of the problem, citing the setback in Nigerian football at the beginning of his 8-year tenure.
The stakeholders further stated that instead of being part of the delegation, Pinnick should be answering questions from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and the Department of State Services, DSS regarding the Nike kits contract and decision-making
