The legal team representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Osun State on Monday, 7 September, 2026 rejected a petition purportedly filed by the party to challenge Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the August 15 governorship election.
One of the senior lawyers on the team, Adekunle Adegoke, said on Monday, 7 September, 2026 said the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and the party did not authorise any petition before the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
Adegoke, who disclosed this on Monday,7 September, 2026 explained that the legal team had advised Oyebamiji against challenging the election result after reviewing the circumstances surrounding the poll.
“The lawyers met the APC candidate and other party leaders shortly after the election to examine the available options and determine the appropriate course of action”.
Thegazellenews.com reported that The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Monday, 7 September, 2026 formally commenced the process of hearing challenges to the August 15 governorship election, following the display of two petitions filed by the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The petitions, challenging the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke, were pasted on the notice board of the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday.
The development followed confirmation by the Secretary of the Tribunal, Pefe Belemore, that petitions challenging the outcome of the election had been filed
Pefe Belemore had earlier disclosed that the necessary notices would be displayed on the tribunal’s notice board before noon on Monday.
At the opening of the tribunal earlier in the day, the secretary and other officials of the secretariat were in court as preparations were being made for the commencement of proceedings.
The APC and PDP are challenging the election result which returned Governor Ademola Adeleke for another term in office.
The display of the petitions is expected to trigger the next stage of the legal process, including the service of court processes on the parties and subsequent hearings before the tribunal.
The APC’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by its candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, against Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The PDP’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Governor Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
