The Rivers State Police Command on Wednesday, 2 September, 2026 announced the dismissal of three of its officers linked to the killing of a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, Anthony Obodo, along Ada George in Port Harcourt on Thursday, 27 August, 2026.

Also, the command said a member of the team, an inspector who fled after the shooting of the victim, has been declared a deserter.

The state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, who made this disclosure on Wednesday, 2 September, 2026 while parading the three officers before newsmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital,  said the action followed the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of the ‘culpability’ of the officers involved.

“The Command has taken appropriate disciplinary action against the police personnel involved, and the officers being paraded today have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court,” the state police chief said.
