Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday, 26 February, 2026 declared that the compassion and sincerity of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, played a decisive role in his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), reports thegazellenews.com
Thegazellenews.com reports further that the Delta Governor spoke in Warri, Delta State, during the First Lady’s homecoming visit to Warri Kingdom, where she was received by the paramount ruler, Ogiame Atuwatse III, and conferred with the traditional title of
Utukpa-Oritse of Warri Kingdom, also known as Ugbone, meaning “Light of God.”
The ceremony underscored the First Lady’s ancestral ties to Warri, as her mother hails from the kingdom. The conferment of the title Utukpa-Oritse Ugbone, the Light of God symbolised honour and recognition by the Warri Kingdom.
The event, attended by traditional leaders, political figures and residents, blended royal tradition with political
undertones, as the Governor publicly linked his political realignment to what he described as the First Lady’s large heart and unwavering outreach to the people of Delta State.
The Governor explained that Senator Tinubu had visited Delta State three times twice while he was still in another political party and again after he crossed over to the APC and that her consistency demonstrated genuine care for Nigerians beyond partisan lines.
“She has a large heart, and those visits where she flagged off the women petty traders empowerment and the launch of the Free to Shine campaign encouraged me to make up my mind,” Oborevwori said.
“May God continue to empower you to continue to put smiles on the faces of more Nigerians.”
Meanwhile, the First Lady used the occasion to call for unity across the nation, urging citizens to put aside their differences in pursuit of collective progress. She quoted Psalm 133:1–3, stating,
“The Bible tells us in Psalm 133 verse 1 to 3 that it is pleasant to dwell together in unity, for there is where God commanded blessings.”
Furthermore, she assured the people, who turned out in large numbers, of the Federal Government’s continued support and commitment.
She noted that the governor had been doing a good job in the state.
In addition, Senator Tinubu, on behalf of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), donated ₦50 million to 1,000 women petty traders, reinforcing her focus on grassroots economic empowerment.
In his remarks, the Olu of Warri urged residents to let go of past grievances, stressing that peace, progress and prosperity would flourish only when unity prevails.
“We are proud of who you are, who you have become,” the monarch said.
He added, “Our women know how to take very good care of their husbands. Thank you for being a very good example to our girls and women.”
