The Federal Ministry of Education has disclosed that security agencies have deployed heightened vigilance around Federal Unity Colleges nationwide, ahead of the resumption of academic activities on Monday, 14 September, 2026.
This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, on Friday, 11 September, 2026.
According to the statement, the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, revealed that relevant security agencies had been duly informed of the resumption arrangements and were maintaining increased surveillance around the colleges and their immediate environments, as part of coordinated efforts to safeguard students, staff and school communities.
Alausa explained that the security deployment formed part of a broader plan by the Federal Government to ensure a safe, smooth and seamless commencement of the new academic session, stressing that the safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain central to its commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The minister directed school authorities to maintain close coordination with security agencies and other appropriate authorities to facilitate an orderly and secure resumption, while urging parents and guardians to remain calm, rely on official information and proceed with preparations to ensure their children and wards return to their respective colleges as scheduled.
He further called on students, parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to work together in maintaining a peaceful, supportive and secure school environment, stressing that the safety and wellbeing of learners remain a shared responsibility.
The ministry disclosed that it would continue to monitor developments and take all necessary security measures, in collaboration with appropriate authorities, to ensure the smooth and safe resumption of academic activities in all Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.
“The Federal Ministry of Education assures students, parents, guardians, teachers and the general public that all necessary arrangements are in place to support a safe, peaceful and successful resumption in all Federal Unity Colleges nationwide,” the statement read.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s education system in a safe and conducive learning environment, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which recognises education and human capital development as essential to the country’s sustainable growth and national development.
