Former Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Senator Wasiu Eshilokun, has donated a total of N17 million in honour of the late veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Eshilokun announced the donation while speaking at ongoing activities surrounding Ogogo’s final rites, where he pledged N10 million to the actor’s children, N1 million each to his two wives, and N5 million to the Odunfa Caucus, the association of Yoruba film practitioners.
Beyond the cash donations, the Senator promised to provide health insurance coverage for 10 members of the Odunfa Caucus, as part of his broader support for the film community.
The gesture has been welcomed as a show of solidarity with Ogogo’s family and colleagues during their period of mourning.
Ogogo, who died at the age of 66, was one of the respected figures in Yoruba-language cinema, and his passing has continued to attract tributes from colleagues, friends, political figures and admirers across Nigeria.
