Following the announcement  by the Oyo State Government  that oba Rasidi Ladoja will be the next 44th Olubadan, the Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the National Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria, (NTRCN) His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has congratulated the monarch on his emergence as  the next Olubadan of Ibadan Land.

Abubakar, who acknowledged Ladoja’s leadership qualities and consciousness of God, expressed confidence that the vast experienced Oba will excel as the new Olubadan of Ibadan Land.

Oyo  Governor Seyi Makinde announced on Wednesday, 20 August, 2025 that the state government has approved his nomination as the next Olubadan of  Ibadan land  when he paid him a homage at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

Prior to the state government approval, Oba Ladoja was recently nominated by the Olubadan-in-Council as the next Olubadan of Ibadan Land.

The Sultan also acknowledged Ladoja’s predecessor, the late Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on Monday, July 7 and was buried on August 8, 2025.

Sultan stated this  in a statement signed by Sai’idu Maccido, the Secretary to the Sultanate Council Sokoto.

“In acknowledging the wealth of experience that Oba Ladoja brings—gained through his successful career as a businessman, farmer, former federal legislator, and notably as a former governor of Oyo State—the Sultan expresses confidence in his capability to excel in his new role as Olubadan of Ibadan Land.

“Sultan Abubakar notes that Oba Ladoja’s journey through the traditional cadre within the esteemed Ibadan Kingdom positions him well to embrace the responsibilities of the throne.

“We congratulate the new Olubadan of Ibadan Land, who has been an ally for many years. As a leader with a strong consciousness of God and a commitment to the peace, unity, and development of Nigeria—our enduring mission—we are certain that Oba Alhaji Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja will excel as the traditional leader of his people,” the statement reads:

The Sultan also congratulated Makinde and wished him all the best for abiding by the wish of the people.

“May Allah continue to guide you and ease your affairs as governor, and may He help Oba Ladoja succeed on the throne as Olubadan of Ibadan Land,” he added.
