The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s lifestyle, dismissing claims that public officials live extravagantly amid Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Adedeji made the defence during an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, 9 August, 2026, while responding to questions about the lifestyle of political office holders and concerns over government spending.

He said Tinubu does not live a lavish lifestyle despite occupying the nation’s highest office, insisting that the President remains focused on his duties.

According to Adedeji, Tinubu often walks from his residence to his office and only uses vehicles when travelling to the airport, stressing that the President goes from home to office on foot and does not even drive except when heading to the airport.

The NRS Chairman also claimed that the President eats only once daily and has not travelled outside Nigeria in the past three months.

Adedeji challenged criticism over the use of luxury vehicles by the President’s convoy, arguing that Tinubu had the means to afford such vehicles even before becoming President, and questioned how much an Escalade would cost that the President of Nigeria could not afford.

He maintained that Tinubu’s daily routine showed commitment to work rather than a life of luxury, challenging critics to point to any party or holiday the President had attended in the past three years.

His comments come amid ongoing public discussions about the cost of governance and the lifestyle of political leaders as Nigerians continue to face economic pressures.
