The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Works, Dr. Adekunle Olayinka, FNSE, fondly called KOPI has been honoured by Transparency Africa for his integrity, selfless service and exemplary record in public service.

Olayinka received the prestigious honour on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, expressing appreciation to Transparency Africa for recognising his years of service and commitment to humanity.

Speaking during the presentation, Olayinka said he was initially curious about the reason for the recognition, noting that his first reaction upon hearing about the award was, “Why me? What is the justification?”
According to him, Transparency Africa explained that the award followed a review of his antecedents and career, which the organisation considered exceptional, particularly in the areas of integrity, selfless service and a clean record.

He said the recognition was particularly meaningful because political and public positions are temporary, while an individual’s name and reputation remain.

Reflecting on his journey, Olayinka recalled returning to Nigeria from the diaspora, where he had been working as an expatriate and earning a comfortable income.
He disclosed that he subsequently spent about five years working virtually pro bono within the State party administration, operating from a small office without complaining.
According to him, the sacrifice was deliberate, as he wanted to understand the system, learn the processes and adequately prepare himself to contribute meaningfully to society.

The engineer also spoke about his philosophy of helping others, stressing that acts of kindness should not always be publicised.
“I have assisted people without them knowing, and without seeking credit. The satisfaction comes from knowing that I have made a difference,” he stated.

Olayinka described himself as an accomplished but contented man, he also emphasised the importance of mentoring young Nigerians, saying the younger generation must be adequately prepared to assume leadership responsibilities.
He maintained that succession planning remains one of the fundamental responsibilities of every leader.

Olayinka therefore dedicated the honour to the principles of integrity, service and mentorship, promising to continue contributing to society and helping others.
He thanked Transparency Africa for the recognition and for the confidence reposed in him, assuring the organisation and members of the public that he would continue to uphold the values for which he was honoured.
