The Nigeria Police Force has initiated disciplinary proceedings against 167 senior officers over alleged professional misconduct and related offences, with the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) convened to review the cases.

The process, currently underway at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal accountability, enforce discipline and uphold professional standards across the Force, according to the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.
He explained that the committee is mandated to assess pending disciplinary matters involving officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above, ensuring due process in line with established laws and regulations.

“The Force Disciplinary Committee serves as a crucial internal mechanism tasked with reviewing and adjudicating cases involving senior officers holding the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above,” he said.
Accordingly, the exercise is expected to guarantee a thorough, transparent and fair evaluation of all cases, with appropriate recommendations to be forwarded to the Police Service Commission for final consideration.
Placid noted that the initiative forms part of broader institutional efforts to reinforce discipline within the Force and address issues of misconduct among senior personnel.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to professionalism and ethical conduct, stressing that no officer found culpable would evade due process.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to discipline, integrity and professionalism. No officer found guilty of misconduct will be shielded from due process,” the IGP stated.
He added that the ongoing disciplinary actions are aligned with wider reforms aimed at strengthening internal control systems, promoting ethical behaviour and restoring public confidence in the Force.
In the same vein, the police authorities reaffirmed their resolve to uphold accountability and ensure that officers operate within the core values of the profession.
