The Alimosho Local Government has organised a two-day capacity-building programme for its revenue officers as part of efforts to strengthen internally generated revenue and improve service delivery at the grassroots.
The training, held at the council’s Multi-Purpose Hall on February 3, 2026, was organised under the leadership of the Chairman, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson. It forms part of the administration’s commitment, made at inception, to continuous staff development, improved welfare and the creation of a conducive working environment for workers in the local government.

Day one of the workshop focused on key themes including The Concept of Public Revenue Generation and Systems of Effective Revenue Collection as well as Essential Qualities of an Effective Revenue Officer. The sessions were facilitated by retired and renowned revenue generation expert, Prince Bakare Ayilola Raimi, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Favor-Bakky Resource Nigeria Limited, alongside Mr. Waheed Kehinde Sanni.
Declaring the programme open, Hon. Akinpelu underscored the critical role of revenue in local governance, describing it as the lifeblood of the third tier of government.

“Revenue enables us to provide quality roads, functional primary healthcare, improved schools, environmental sanitation, security support and meaningful empowerment programmes for our people,” the chairman said.
He, however, cautioned that revenue generation must be anchored on integrity, professionalism and service to the public, stressing that the training was not merely about increasing figures.
“This programme is about strengthening capacity, deepening accountability and building public trust,” he said.
The Chairman reminded the revenue officers of their strategic position as representatives of government at the grassroots, urging them to conduct themselves with discipline and fairness.
“You are the face of Alimosho at the grassroots. The way you conduct yourselves determines how our people perceive the government of Alimosho. This training is designed to equip you with modern skills, sound knowledge of revenue laws and processes, ethical standards, efficiency and fairness in revenue collection,” he added.
Addressing concerns about leakages, sharp practices and the utilisation of public funds, Hon. Akinpelu reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to reform the revenue system.
“We are determined to block leakages, eliminate sharp practices and replace outdated methods with smarter, technology-driven systems that protect both the government and the taxpayer. When revenue is properly collected and prudently managed, everyone benefits,” he said.
Participants were actively engaged during the interactive sessions, with questions and contributions following the lectures.
Also speaking, the Head of Administration, Dr. Idowu Banjoko, charged the revenue officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by the chairman by applying the knowledge gained to improve revenue generation in Alimosho Local Government.
He urged them to be diligent, proactive and professional in the discharge of their duties, noting that effective revenue administration is key to sustainable development at the local level.
