Manchester United Moroccan defender Noussair Mazraoui has revealed that he is considering retiring from professional football after the 2026 FIFA World Cup to dedicate himself to religious studies and personal spiritual goals.
In a previously published interview from March, the 28-year-old said life is too short and shared his desire to memorise the Quran and eventually become an imam at a mosque, suggesting the upcoming World Cup could mark the final chapter of his playing career.
Although Mazraoui has not officially confirmed a retirement date, his comments have resurfaced during the ongoing World Cup and sparked widespread discussion among fans.
Beyond football, the Moroccan international has recently become involved with Islamic fintech company Wahed as a strategic partner and shareholder, reflecting a growing alignment between his professional pursuits and religious values. His long-term ambitions would require years of dedicated Quranic study, extensive Islamic knowledge, and community leadership training.
Having played for Ajax, Bayern Munich, and Manchester United during his career, Mazraoui has long been among the key players of the Moroccan National Team.
