The Nigeria Grassroots Leadership & Excellence Award (NGLEA) has honoured the Chairman of Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu, for his outstanding contributions to grassroots development and commitment to people-centred governance.

The award was presented on Tuesday by the Public Relations Officer of the organisation, Comrade Olu-Aina Ayowolemi, on behalf of the NGLEA.

Ayowolemi said the recognition was in appreciation of Hon. Jimoh’s purposeful leadership and remarkable contributions to the development of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA.

According to him, the council chairman has demonstrated purposeful leadership through strategic interventions in education, infrastructure, healthcare, security, environmental sanitation, youth empowerment, employment creation, social welfare and institutional development.

He particularly highlighted the administration’s efforts in the education sector, including the Olugbani Summer School Programme, free GCE and JAMB support, preparatory classes, provision of educational materials, scholarships and youth ICT training.

Ayowolemi said the initiatives underscored Saliu’s commitment to human capital development and had helped position education as a central pillar of grassroots transformation in the council.

He also commended the administration’s social intervention programmes, particularly the Ounje Olugbani and Owo Irorun cash support initiatives, which he said had provided food and financial assistance to 10,000 vulnerable residents.

He explained that the interventions demonstrated a commitment to governance that places the welfare and wellbeing of residents at the centre of leadership.

“For these accomplishments and his demonstrated passion for service, accountability, youth development, educational advancement and grassroots transformation, Hon. Jimoh has distinguished himself as a responsive, accessible and development-focused local government leader,” Ayowolemi said.

He added that the council chairman’s record represented a commitment to “turning leadership into service, promises into programmes and programmes into measurable impact.”

Receiving the award, Hon. Jimoh commended the NGLEA for finding him worthy of the honour.

He said the recognition would further motivate him to continue implementing programmes and projects aimed at improving the lives of residents of Apapa Iganmu LCDA.

The council chairman stressed that the honour had increased the responsibility on him to do more, noting that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”

Hon. Jimoh assured residents that his administration would continue to embark on more projects and initiatives that would positively impact their lives.

Other members of the NGLEA team present at the occasion are: Comrade Paul Ogunkoya, Chairman; and Comrade Taiwo Fayose, Secretary.
