The Bauchi State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping with the successful rescue of two abducted victims and the arrest of four suspects in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident occurred on June 2, 2026, at about 2:35 a.m. when unidentified gunmen invaded the residence of a man in Kwarin Gadali Hamlet, Pali District, Alkaleri LGA, and abducted his 40-year-old wife and 25-year-old son.
The command said the report was received at Pali Outstation at about 11:46 a.m., prompting operatives to immediately visit the scene and launch intelligence-led operations aimed at tracking the kidnappers and rescuing the victims.
SP Habib disclosed that in a follow-up operation conducted later that day at about 9:40 p.m., a combined team of police personnel, soldiers, and local security operatives arrested three suspects at Kuka Village in Duguri District of Alkaleri LGA.
The suspects were identified as Mainasara Alhaji Umaru, 23; Buba Alhaji Umaru, 20; and Muhammadu Usman, 19.
“Their arrest followed actionable intelligence trails that led operatives to their residence,” the police spokesman stated.
He further explained that on June 3, 2026, at about 11:10 a.m., the Officer-in-Charge of Pali Outstation arrested another suspect who reportedly confessed to having knowledge of the kidnapping and the location where the victims were being held.
Following the confession, operatives extended the operation and arrested another suspect, identified as Ahmadu Umaru of Dalgade.
The police said sustained intelligence-driven operations eventually led to the successful rescue of the kidnapped victims at about 7:45 p.m. on June 3, 2026.
“The victims were rescued unhurt and have been taken to the General Hospital, Alkaleri, for medical examination and necessary attention,” the statement added.
The command confirmed that all arrested suspects are currently in custody, while the case has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for discreet investigation.
The police also said efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing accomplices and recover weapons used during the operation.
Commending the operatives and other security agencies involved in the rescue mission, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance stance against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He assured residents that all those involved in the crime would be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
The commissioner also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid crime prevention and detection across the state.
