The Akran of Badagry Kingdom, His Majesty De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I has passed on joined his ancestors, reports thegazellenews.com

Oba Akran was reported to have died early Monday, 12 January, 2026.

No details have been given yet on circumstances surrounding his death.

Thegazellenews.com learnt that the whole of Badagry is in awe on the death of the referred monarch and it was gathered that all markets have been ordered closed as the Oro masquerade is expected to go public.

Oba Akran was one of Nigeria’s most referred Monarchs. He was a politician and journalist before ascending the throne in 1977.

Thegazellenews.com reports further that he was one of the longest serving Monarchs in Lagos State having spent 48 years on the throne.

A member of the Action Group, he represented Badagry in the Parliament in 1951 and was Minister in the pre-Independence era.

He was also instrumental to the establishment of the flagship secondary school in Badagry, the Badagry Grammar School.

Wikipedia also reported that he was born in 1899 which makes him 125 years old as at the time of his death.

The revered monarch, who reigned for decades, was a paramount ruler of the Badagry Kingdom and a respected voice within the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
