Sports stakeholders have continued to celebrate and hail Nigeria’s performances at the recently concluded Commonwealth games held in Glasgow, Scotland.

Nigeria finished overall seventh position on the medals table and with a total of 24 medals to rank as the best African country at the games.

Many Nigerian sports followers have described the outing as one of the country’s best in recent times.

Speaking on the country’s performance, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye, expressed satisfaction with the showings of the Nigerian team to the games.

“The Commonwealth Games was a testimony to the newly found fervour and readiness of our athletes to compete and also be the best in their various sports.

“Our athletes showed the sports world that they deserves to be truly respected through their sheer bravery, confidence and determination.

“Importantly, too, the leadership of the National Sports Commission also encouraged the athletes with incredible moral and financial support.

Adeboye, also expressed confidence in the future of Nigeria sports, which he credited to the unflinching commitment of President Bola Tinubu, to the empowerment and betterment of Nigerian youths through sports.

“His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu has been keeping his promises on sports and youth development, in all ramifications.

“And he actually understands the importance  of grassroots sports development and its contributions to the country’s  socio-economic growth of the country.

“What Mr. President is doing to encourage sports administrators and athletes is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria sports. And his passion for the development and betterment of Nigerian youths through sports is uncommon.

“It gives me the real confidence to state that the future is bright for Nigerian sports. I also make bold to say, Nigeria can truly rule the world of sports,” Adeboye, enthused confidently.
