The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has uncovered 41 properties valued at over N212 billion allegedly linked to Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
The assets, spread across Kebbi State, Kano State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, include hotels, universities, schools, factories, fuel businesses, radio stations and luxury homes.
Investigations showed that properties in Kebbi State alone are worth N162.1 billion, while assets traced to Kano State are valued at N16 billion.
Properties in the FCT were put at N34.6 billion, bringing the total value to N212.8 billion.
Following the discovery, the Federal Government has filed a 16-count charge of money laundering against Malami and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act.
Kebbi properties.
Documents obtained by PM NEWS revealed that Kebbi hosts the largest share of the assets. They include Rayhaan University, permanent, temporary and third sites; Rayhaan Model Academy; Rayhaan Primary and Secondary School; staff quarters, factories, machines, fuel tanker garages, hotels, shopping facilities, a printing press and a radio station.
Also listed are several high-value residential buildings, including homes linked to Malami and his sons, as well as foundation buildings and uncompleted multi-storey complexes.
Kano assets.
In Kano, EFCC traced assets including Zeennoor Hotel, its mosque and old hotel structure, Rayhaan Hotel, a gym facility and a luxury residence allegedly belonging to Malami’s wife.
Abuja properties
In the Federal Capital Territory, the assets include prime duplexes in Maitama, two Meethaq Hotels in Jabi and Maitama, Harmonia Hotel in Garki, and 42 housing units at Efab Estate.
EFCC officials say more legal actions may follow as the case progresses.
