Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, founder of the Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation and Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, has donated ₦10 million to support the 2026 PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship (PYCF).
The philanthropist had earlier offered a property in Lugbe, Abuja, for use as the PRNigeria Academy and Studio, further strengthening his support for youth development, journalism and professional communication training.
Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential and organisers of the fellowship and National Spokespersons Awards, disclosed the interventions in an appreciation letter to Gwarzo dated, Saturday, 29 August, 2026.
The Managing Director of IMPR, Yushau A. Shuaib, described the ₦10 million donation as an extraordinary contribution that reflects Gwarzo’s enduring commitment to education, mentorship and youth empowerment.
The letter which was conveyed by General Manager IMPR, Mr. Saad Yushau added that the donation will support the 2026 edition of the PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship across its centres in Abuja, Kano and Ilorin.
The latest intervention adds to Gwarzo’s longstanding support for youth-oriented and capacity-building initiatives associated with the media organisation.
Over the years, he has supported programmes including the Campus Journalism inititives, Arewa Stars Awards, internship schemes and special publications.
His donation of the Lugbe property for the PRNigeria Academy and Studio represents one of his most significant interventions, providing a platform to expand the training and mentorship of young communication professionals.
While expressing appreciation for the gesture, IMPR proposed that the property be formalised as a renewable lease donation rather than an outright transfer in line with the media organisation’s governance and sustainability framework.
Shuaib explained that IMPR remains committed to responsible growth as a professional and profit-oriented organisation and had consequently proposed the lease arrangement as an appropriate framework for the property.
He said the organisation’s General Manager, Saad Yushau Shuaib, had earlier been asked to meet Gwarzo and formally communicate the position. IMPR also proposed that Gwarzo’s support for the fellowship and academy be formally acknowledged under the Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo (AAG) Foundation in recognition of his philanthropic contributions.
“We deeply value this partnership and look forward to strengthening our collaboration in a manner that reflects transparency, mutual respect, and our shared commitment to developing the next generation of communication professionals,” Shuaib said.
The PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship is one of IMPR’s youth development initiatives aimed at equipping emerging journalists and communication practitioners with practical skills, mentorship and professional exposure.

In his response, Professor Gwarzo said his philanthropic work in education and youth development is driven by a commitment to nurturing a new generation of competent and responsible leaders through mentorship, learning and practical skills acquisition. He noted that investing in young people is one of the most sustainable ways to build a better society, stressing that financial support alone is insufficient without equipping beneficiaries with the knowledge, values and opportunities needed to become self‑reliant and contribute to national development.
