Kano State Police Command has arrested a member of Kano State House of Assembly, Isiyaku Ali Danja Gezawa and 164 others for allegedly trying to set ablaze the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a police station.
According to the command, Ali Danja of Gezawa constituency, led a team of hoodlums to destroy the INEC collation centre in Gezawa.
Already INEC had declared the House of Assembly result of the area inconclusive following the violence that trailed the elections.
Speaking, the DIG in charge of Election in Kano, Hafiz Muhammad Inuwa, on Sunday,19 March 2023, while parading the suspects arrested for various political crimes during the conduct of the recently concluded governorship and House of Assembly elections, warned that the police would not tolerate breakdown of law and order.
According to Inuwa, those paraded are accused of alleged ballot box snatchings, disruptions of elections, engaging in violence, wielding dangerous weapons and engaging in drugs related crimes.
Inuwa assured that the suspects will be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, has urged the public to cooperate with the police in ensuring that they do not engage in wild celebrations that might lead to a breach of the law, reminding them that police have banned wild celebrations in the state.
